Convert PNG to JPG Under 1MB

PNG is a lossless format — it stores every pixel without any lossy compression. A 2000×1500 photo as PNG is typically 5–15MB because every pixel value is preserved exactly. Converting to JPG at 85% compresses this to 400–800KB by using perceptual compression that discards imperceptible detail.

JPG does not support transparency. Transparent areas are filled with a solid colour — white by default, which is correct for most documents and product photos on white backgrounds. If you need to preserve transparency, convert to WebP instead, which supports alpha channel at smaller file sizes than PNG.
